Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall joined Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s lawsuit that sought to overturn the results of the presidential election in December 2020. A day later, Marshall traveled to Washington, DC to meet with President Trump, who he claimed was going to “have an opportunity to be able to come back for another four years.” As recently as March 2022, Marshall refused to affirm that Joe Biden is the duly elected and lawfully serving president of the United States, saying only that Biden is “the president of the United States.” Marshall claimed that he answered the question in this way because he doesn’t want to “legitimize that everything that took place in the 2020 election was appropriate.”
